FOOD TO EAT IN OCTOBER
Summer is over along with its beautiful fruits and vegetable. We are now entering the autumn season with among others root vegetables. Some might say that we are entering a less interesting season of the year when it comes to the variety of ingredients available. However, I believe this is time for comfort food and the beginning of splendid seafood and delicious game meat.
Below some of my favorite October ingredients.
No idea why they are name after my hometown but they are great. Roast them with some bacon and they make a fantastic meal.
I love their colors and their various shapes. It works with everything and not matter how you cook them (roasting, grilling, boiling) it will turn great. Currently, my favorite way of cooking them is to roasted them, add some pumpkin seeds, a bit of chili and some nice greek yoghurt. Delicious
Fennel is a great ingredient to use in salad or with a nice roast fish. Slice them and roast them together with some great white fish with a bit of olive oil and lemon. Splendid.
Perfect to eat by its own. However, I love making a tart tatin with them. Pair it with a whisky and you got yourself a stunning dessert.
One of my favorite fruits, juicy, tasty, and perfect with elegant desserts. Some of the best way to use pears are to poach them or a simple tart.
As a good Belgian, I need my dose of mussels. My favorite is a simple white wine mussel with some nice crunchy fries and homemade mayonnaise. Do you know that you can use the shelf as your fork?
One of the greatest way to enjoy clams is this classic portuguese recipe called Ameijoas a Bulhao Pato where the clams are cooked with garlic and coriander. I can’t get enough of them.
